Artiste Rema Rebrands His Sound From Afrobeat To Afrorave

Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, has rebranded his genre of music to Afrorave.

The 21-year-old took to his Twitter page on Saturday, May 22, 2021 to state this.

According to the ‘Bounce’ crooner, Afrorave is a sub-genre of Afrobeat.

“From this day my sound will be called “Afrorave” a sub-genre of Afrobeat, my Album seals this claim for good”, he tweeted.

“My sound y’all called Indian, everybody doing it now“, he added.

The Mavin Records artist also retweeted a few reactions to the latest development.

“People call their genre/sound afrofusion, afroswing, afrotrap, afropop & etc. But rema calling his own genre/sound “afrorave” is where you draw the line, lmaoo the hate is inbuilt at this point“, wrote Benny.

Joey Akan wrote: “I know Rema has not forgiven Nigerians for not properly classifying his sound, and denigrating it with the ‘Indian’ talk. But he has to understand that he brought something new into the space, and we can only approximate it to what we can understand. Forgive us all, Commando.”
