Italy were in Group A and kicked off the tournament against Turkey all the way back on June 11th, winning 3-0 in Rome after an excellent opening ceremony. Another 3-0 win followed in Italy’s second game, this time with Switzerland the victims, before Wales fell 1-0 as the Azzurri took their foot off the gas having already secured qualification to the last-16. The first knockout round saw Italy up against Group C runners-up Austria, a game that finished goalless after 90 minutes. Federico Chiesa finally scored the opening goal five minutes into extra-time and Matteo Pessina wrapped up the victory, though there was still time for Marko Arnautovic to be the first player to score against Italy at Euro 2020.
