Fans of Messi and FC Barcelona have been disappointed and shocked at the latest confirmation that Messi will be leaving the Catalonian giant, as his contract is not being renewed.
The club confirmed this on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 where they stated that Messi’s contract could not be renewed because of financial issues and structural obstacles at the club. They wrote;
Despite club and player reaching an agreement and their clear intention to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles
Barcelona also expressed its regret and also wishes the Argentine well in his future on its website,
As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying at Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will not be fulfilled. FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to aggrandisement of the club and wishes him the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.
