England host Germany at Wembley on Monday night as Gareth Southgate gets a final opportunity to cast an eye over his squad before they fly out to the World Cup in November.
The Three Lions were relegated from Nations League Group A3 with defeat to Italy at the San Siro on Friday, while Monday’s visitors Germany cannot progress to next year’s Nations League finals in what is essentially a dead rubber at the national stadium.
But Southgate will not see it as such. The mood surrounding the national side could not be more different to the one which greeted the final whistle the last time these two sides met at Wembley, with England beating their rivals to open up a favourable route to the final of last year’s European Championships
