It was an intimidating atmosphere in Budapest as a capacity crowd at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium cheered on Hungary, but Portugal brought the decibel levels down a notch or two with their late flurry, in which Ronaldo netted a five-minute brace to follow on from Raphael Guerreiro’s deadlock breaker.
Germany meanwhile enjoyed no such luck against France as Joachim Low — who will leave at the end of the tournament — struggled to find a way of thwarting the breakneck speed of Kylian Mbappe, though it was ultimately a Mats Hummels own goal that separated the nations.
