PSG vs Montpellier (Ligue 1 2022/23)

PSG were without Kylian Mbappe for their Ligue 1 opener against Clermont Foot due to injury, having also missed the Frenchman for the Trophees des Champions through suspension.

However, the Frenchman’s injury doesn’t appear to be too severe with Galtier claiming he would have played Mbappe if the match were more difficult or in the Champions League.

So Mbappe should be back to face Montpellier and, if Galtier throws him straight in from the start, he should replace Pablo Sarabia in the team with Lionel Messi dropping back to the right. Julian Draxler remains out with a knee injury while new signing Renato Sanches may be unavailable after picking up a knock.

Jordan Ferri missed Montpellier’s first game of the season through suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards picked up at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. But the midfielder is available for selection once again and will be battling with Savanier and Joris Chotard for a spot in midfield.

Who he might replace (if anyone) is tough to call as last season he partnered Chotard at the base of the midfield with Savanier playing further forward, but the summer signing of Wahbi Khazri has thrown a spanner in the works there. Elsewhere, Pedro Mendes is a doubt but Sacha Delaye is definitely out.
