Euro 2020 will be Switzerland’s fifth appearance in the tournament, with all of those coming in the past seven editions. Since their first qualification at Euro 96, Switzerland have only failed to qualify for Euro 2000 and 2012, hosting the tournament in 2008. Switzerland have, however, now qualified for the past four major tournaments including the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. They reached Euro 2020 by topping Group D, finishing one point clear of second-placed Denmark, with five wins and two draws from their eight games. Their only defeat came against Denmark, but a 6-1 win over Gibraltar on the final day of the group stage was enough to secure top spot.
