RB Leipzig are competing in the Champions League for only the second time in their history but have managed to reach the final four thanks to some exceptional European performances this season, not least in beating both Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid in the knock-out rounds so far.
Having risen through the German football pyramid to become one of the main challengers to Bayern Munich’s Meisterschale throne in recent years, die Roten Bullen would love nothing more than to announce themselves on the European stage by reaching a Champions League final – perhaps even against their domestic foes who take on Lyon in the other semi-final.
But in Paris Saint-Germain, Leipzig come up against another team that have never reached the Champions League final before, despite this competition clearly being their priority in recent seasons. Having delivered domestic success consistently, Europe’s biggest prize has thus far eluded the French club.
