Arsenal vs Leeds (EFL CUP 2021/22)

The Gunners secured their spot in the fourth round thanks to a largely comfortable 3-0 victory over League One side AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates – having already seen off West Bromwich Albion.

Leeds were made to work slightly harder for their spot, needing penalties to beat Fulham following a goalless draw, after knocking out Crewe Alexandra in the previous round.

It’s often said the fans are the 12th man in football, so much so that some clubs leave the no.12 jersey free for their supporters – or even name them on the teamsheet at the back of their matchday programmes.

When the fans are on a high, you can feel it around a ground and it will undoubtedly seep onto the pitch, boosting the home players. At the same time, when things aren’t going well and the fans are on the players’ backs, the frustration rubs off and it can send teams on a downward spiral.

Fortunately for Arsenal, they are experiencing the former at the moment, with the Emirates a place of happiness when the Gunners beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the Premier League on Friday to move into the top half of the table. Arsenal are now unbeaten in five home games since a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, and Arteta believes his young side are reaping the rewards of their Emirates support.
