Barcelona vs Getafe (La Liga 2021/22)

Barcelona are bidding to head into the international break on a positive note when they host Getafe at Camp Nou this weekend.

Nothing short of a win will do for Ronald Koeman’s side who dropped points for the first time this season last weekend in Bilbao.

Athletic, and particularly Inaki Williams, caused big problems throughout for new signing Eric Garcia who endured a difficult evening which ultimately resulted in him seeing red in the dying moments. There wasn’t much for Barcelona fans to be encouraged by at the other end with the exception perhaps of Memphis Depay who scored

The confidence bordering on arrogance, that the Dutchman plays with, may be just what Barca need in this transitional period after the departure of Leo Messi. They need players willing to assume responsibility and not afraid to take on the impossible task of filling the great Argentine’s boots in the role of being the attacking linchpin of this side. That won’t faze Depay and he’s likely to be one of the most prominent players in this game too.

In truth, this is a decent fixture for Barcelona to have whilst they are missing some notable defensive players, as Getafe aren’t a team that is carrying much of a goal threat. They’ve started with Sandro Ramirez and Enes Unal in their opening two games in attack but are yet to score this season following 1-0 defeats against both Valencia and Sevilla. New boss Michel may be tempted to make some changes here with Jaime Mata and Mexican youngster José Juan Macías alternative options up top.
