Bayern Munich vs Barcelona (UCL 2022/23)

Barcelona have far more riding on this game than Bayern do, but it is difficult to see a Blaugrana team low on confidence and numbers springing any surprises at the Allianz Arena.

Some expected changes in the home defence will aid Barca’s prospects of making the net ripple, but Nagelsmann’s side could very well condemn the Catalans to the unfamiliar territory of Europa League football this week.

Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona started their latest European campaigns with wins on matchday 1. The German side got an impressive 0-2 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro, while the Catalan club swept aside Viktoria Plzen 5-1.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men have made an unbeaten, albeit rather inconsistent, start to the season in the Bundesliga. Alongside a 1-6 win over Eintracht Frankfurt and a 0-7 demolition of Bochum, there have been disappointing draws with Borussia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin and Stuttgart.

Barca are also unbeaten in La Liga so far, winning four of their five opening games and only dropping points in a draw with Rayo Vallecano in their season opener. They will bring a familiar face to the Allianz Arena today: Robert Lewandowski scored a staggering 253 goals in 238 appearances for Bayern before moving to Spain during the summer. He has already netted five times in six appearances for his new team.
