Bayern Munich vs Hertha (Bundesliga 2021/22)

An opening Bundesliga weekend draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach immediately put new Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann on the back foot.

The young coach though wasn’t in the mood to panic and Germany’s most illustrious club has since recovered even if they’re yet to completely hit their stride. Hoisting the DFL-Supercup at Borussia Dortmund’s expense was followed by a 3-2 league win over FC Cologne before they put 12 without reply past lowly Bremer SV in the DFB-Pokal – a game that saw Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting score four times.

Heading into this weekend Hertha are the only Bundesliga team to start the new campaign with two defeats (3-1 at FC Cologne and 1-2 against Wolfsburg).

In both matches the Berliners were leading; this had only previously happened to Hoffenheim in 2015/16 since 2000, and no club has snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory on the first three matchdays. Hertha’s last top-flight away win at Bayern came in October 1977 when they claimed a 0-2 success. However, they’ve claimed just two wins across their previous 15 away trips, with one of those victories coming at relegated Schalke 04.
