Cameroon, who lost by a single goal against Switzerland, took the lead against the run of play when Jean-Charles Castelletto touched home a flick-on from a corner in the 29th minute.
But Serbia, beaten 2-0 by title favourites Brazil in their opener, hit back strongly with two goals in time added on at the end of the first half.
