Raheem Sterling scored his first Premier League goal since August as the champions made easy for of Everton
Manchester City strolled to a routine win on Sunday as goals from Raheem Sterling, Rodri and Bernardo Silva brushed Everton aside at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s City needed to make up ground on Chelsea, who pulled six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Leicester City on Saturday, while Everton have seen their form spiral after a good start to Rafa Benitez’s reign.
City had to make do without Kevin De Bruyne, who has tested positive for coronavirus, meaning teenager Cole Palmer stepped into the ‘false nine’ role.
A slow start was soon forgotten when Joao Cancelo’s stunning out-of-the-boot pass put the ball on a plate for Sterling to score his first league goal since August.
It was the perfect end to the first half for the hosts, who didn’t look back once Rodri beat Jordan Pickford from 25 yards soon after the break. Bernardo added a late third.
He shows brilliant feet to get on the ball in Everton’s penalty area and City fans are desperate for a goal. He can’t muster a shot, though, with Everton’s players blocking a sight on goal.Bernardo scores City’s third with a simple finish. Palmer’s shot was deflected into the path of Silva, who easily slots home past Pickford. Game over.
