Iran and the USA go head-to-head for only the second time in their history and once again, it’s at the World Cup. Back in 1998, Iran beat USA 2-1 in what was a hugely hyped-up game given the political history between the two countries and while it might not carry the same meaning over 20-years later, the United States will be out for revenge.
We’re expecting this game to be tight and tense throughout and we won’t be surprised by any result in this match. That being said, we can see Iran winning the game or at least holding the USA to a draw.
After all, the United States need to win this match to secure a spot in the knockout stages, while Iran could earn progression with a draw as well, as long as Wales doesn’t beat England, which is likely.
So, we can see the Iranians playing smart and hurting the USA with counter-attacks to avoid a loss in this game.
