Both sides returned after the World Cup break, for the traditional Boxing Day schedule, after six weeks on hiatus from Premier League action.
While Liverpool were celebrating, Leicester will have been left ruing the World Cup break. Like Liverpool, Leicester went into the World Cup off the back of two wins which had seen them move away from the relegation zone and ease some of the pressure on Brendan Rodgers, who has always looked close to being on the brink of sacking. But the pressure may be back on.
Leicester were not only beaten by Newcastle on Boxing day, they were comprehensively beaten. The 3-0 defeat at the King Power could have been so much worse if Newcastle wanted it to be, with the Foxes offering very little in terms of threat, even after bringing Jamie Vardy on at half-time. Leicester remain four points clear of the relegation zone, but this was a reminder that they arenβt safe yet.
