Man City vs Chelsea (EFL CUP 2022/23)

Manchester City begin their quest to reclaim their EFL Cup crown when they host Chelsea on Kilamity live stream.

Last season brought an end to Man City’s domination of the EFL Cup, the first campaign since 2017/18 that they hadn’t won the competition. In fact, since 2013/14, Man City have won the EFL Cup in six of the past nine campaigns with only Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool breaking their dominance. Overall, only Liverpool have won the EFL Cup on more occasions than Man City, moving one clear thanks to their success last season.

Man City have been fantastic this season, losing just two of their 20 matches across all competitions so far, beaten by Liverpool in the Community Shield and Premier League. However, many other teams have struggled to stop Pep Guardiola’s juggernaut. Since losing to Liverpool in October, Man City have won four of their past five matches only dropping points against Borussia Dortmund in a Champions League draw which still saw them seal their spot in the last 16 of the competition.

With Man City out of the EFL Cup early last season, Chelsea were one of the two teams to benefit by reaching the final, though they were beaten by Liverpool on penalties – a result which would be mimicked in the FA Cup final. It was the second EFL Cup final in four years that Chelsea had contested, and they lost their other appearance also on penalties, this time beaten by Man City in a match remembered now for Kepa Arrizabalaga refusing to come off.
