Seeking to secure automatic qualification to the Europa League round of 16, Aston Villa will take on Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Thursday evening. Unai Emery’s side have already secured a top-24 spot, but a top-8 placing remains well within reach for the third-placed Villans. In fact, Villa are very much in contention to top the Europa League standings, as they are currently level on points with the two sides above them – FC Midtjylland and Lyon.
Emery’s side come into this match on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Everton, which brought their 11-game winning streak at Villa Park to an end.As for Fenerbahce, they are also well-placed to progress in the Europa League, having collected 11 points from their opening six fixtures, most recently claiming a 4-0 victory away at Brann.
