A fire incident was recorded on Tuesday afternoon at Afriland Tower, a six-storey commercial building located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
According to reports, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed receiving an emergency call around 1:38 p.m., prompting an immediate deployment of fire crews from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations.
The inferno was traced to the inverter room in the basement, which quickly released thick smoke that spread to several floors of the high-rise. Quick intervention by the firefighters ensured the flames were contained before it escalated into a major disaster.
Officials disclosed that all occupants were safely evacuated, with no injuries or fatalities recorded. The swift response not only prevented extensive damage but also helped avoid panic among office workers and visitors in the tower.
Authorities are expected to carry out a full assessment to determine the level of damage and the exact cause of the fire.
