Malta vs England‘s match started with full attacking forces. A lovely flip-flap from Marcus Rashford allowed him to run into the box and look to deliver from the byline, but he was closed down at the expense of a corner. The set piece was arched toward Harry Maguire, who could only head up into the air. Malta then cleared their lines.
There’s a bit of zip missing from the game which is understandable given the opposition. If England want to dominate (even more so) these types of games they need to keep the intensity and energy levels high. Harry Maguire floats a diagonal pass over to Man United teammate Marcus Rashford. He weaves into the box and wins England a corner.
Phil Foden whips in the corner and it’s won by Maguire. His header just loops the ball into the air and Callum Wilson gives away a free kick trying to recover the loose ball. Malta, to their credit, are taking some real risks at the back.

The hosts haven’t seen too much of the ball this evening and when they have won it back, have struggled to then keep hold of it. They’re keen to play it short in and around their box, despite heavy pressure from England. A triple substitution for the Three Lions.
Luke Shaw, Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane have all made way. On in their places are Tyrone Mings, Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson. Still we wait for Eberechi Eze’s debut. It’s a full senior debut for Eberechi Eze who comes on to replace James Maddison. He’s the 18th Crystal Palace player to play for the national team.
