Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suffered a major blow ahead of their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze will not be in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, according to head coach Jose Peseiro.
The Napoli forward suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Nigeria last month and is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks.
Meanwhile, Chukwueze suffered a similar injury while playing for AC Milan.
The absence of Osimhen and Chukwueze is a major setback for Nigeria, who are attempting to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after failing to qualify for the last edition in Qatar.
Nigeria’s head coach Jose Peseiro has confirmed that the two players will not be included in the squad for the upcoming games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen will not be called up during the next break; we want to avoid any risks,” Peseiro told TV Play, as per Milan Reports.
“I was very sorry for their injuries: the clubs pay the players, and we constantly collaborate with them.”
Super Eagles head coach will have to find a way to replace his two key players for the upcoming qualifiers.
The Super Eagles will play Lesotho on November 11 and Zimbabwe on November 15.
