Chelsea ended Everton’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 2-0 victory on Merseyside. After a fiery first half that saw five yellow cards and no goals, Chelsea needed just 43 seconds after the restart to break the deadlock when Pedro Neto swept home from Jorrel Hato’s cross. 58ee
The win was overshadowed by a serious head injury to Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who was stretchered off after a collision with Jarrad Branthwaite and taken to hospital, with 21-year-old Mike Penders coming on for his Premier League debut to help secure Chelsea’s first league clean sheet since January. Neto sealed the win in the 90th minute with his second goal of the afternoon, lifting Chelsea into the top four and handing Everton their first defeat of the campaign.
