Nigeria’s Flamingos stand on the brink of history as they face Japan in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. The Flamingos, who are the first African team to ever reach the final, booked their place with a superb 3-1 semi-final win over Brazil, with Queen Joseph opening the scoring before Awawu Bashiru struck twice. Having lost their opening game to Poland, they have won five straight matches, beating DPR Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil along the way, and head coach Akeem Busari has kept faith with the same winning XI for this historic showdown.
Japan, meanwhile, are chasing a second title after winning in 2014 and reaching their fourth final overall. They advanced to the final after edging defending champions DPR Korea 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw, and have made four changes to their starting line-up, with captain Honoka Yotsumoto leading the side. Known for their slick passing, discipline and goalscoring pedigree, Japan will be favourites on pedigree, but Nigeria’s pace, power and fearless attack make this a true 50-50 final between two teams on five-match winning runs.
